REYNOLDS CUP
RESEARCH
The Reynolds Cup is considered the world championship of mineralogical analysis, it is organised by the Clay Minerals Society (USA) in honour of Bob Reynolds who has been one of the leading scholars of quantitative analysis of clays and clay minerals. It is a biennial competition between laboratories and institutions from all over the world.
The Analitica laboratory participated in the Reynolds Cup 2020, the Reynolds Cup 2022, and then again in the Reynolds Cup 2024 in which more than 100 laboratories from all over the world took part and it analysed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) 3 samples of unknown mineral mixtures in each edition of the competition. The development and continuous improvement of our mineralogical analysis methodologies allowed us to rank 10th in the competition in 2022 and to further lower the bias (the sum of the relative errors) in 2024.
